Default International Payment for Astromart sale

I have an FS-102 I'm selling on AM and I have a person who claims to be from
Poland wanting to buy the scope but he wants bank account and routing
numbers so he can send a wire transfer which is just not going to happen.
Not sure if this guy is even legit or not but does anyone know a safe easy
way this guy could send money from Poland?

Thanks
Brian

Probably not. Are you that desperate to sell? Just say no thanks.

International reply copon from his bank. It's a kind of international money
order, HE pays for it and mails it to your address, you get it and cash it
and off goes the scope.

I've handled sales of other things international and that way is about the
best.

Do not worry. I am living in Austria and we are a very rich country but
credit cards and therefore a PayPal option is still very unusual here
in Europe.

I do not see the problem: he will pay in advance via an international
money order transfer. You will obtain the money and hopefully he will
take delivery of your goods.

And do consider: transfering money often takes 5 or 10 days even
withing the European union.

However, the safest way would be PayPal. Ask him whether he has a
credit card and if so he should subcribe to PayPal (however you must
have been subcribed to PayPal too). On PayPal one sends money to a
virtual bank account. If the seller gets the package you can then
request the money from PayPal. It is very safe. My brother buys often
via PaPal sailing ship kits from America for me on ebay.

Now I understand what he meant with "wire transfer". Must be something
similar to PayPal.

Unless things have changed radically he can send you an International
Money Order. He 'buys' a cheque(check) for your dollar amount, in your
name, from his bank and sends it to you. You pay it into your account.
Send him the goods when it clears (5 to 8 days in UK, maybe different in
U.S.).
I use wire transfer a lot, but _never_ with an unknown party.

Good move. Don't do it.

That would give them complete access to your accounts and they can make
withdrawals anytime they want.

Would something as goofy as PayPal work in this situation? I have sold many
EBay things to overseas and they have used PayPal.

There has got to be a "classier" way than PayPal, but I do not know what it
is.

I strongly suspect you are dealing with a crook. His own bank knows
exactly how to do the transfer. It does not require you to send him
your account number or bank routing number.

Thanks for your opinions. I think I'll suggest paypal or no thanks. He may
in fact be a honest guy but no way I'm giving a stranger my bank account and
routing numbers.

Thanks again

Brian

BTW, any wants a almost new FS-102...

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I have no idea whether this guy is legit, but this is a very common way
of sending money to the U.S. from a foreign account. It is completely
safe to give your bank account number and routing number- you give the
same away freely every time you write a check. This information will not
allow somebody to make a withdrawal from your account unless you've
given your bank authorization for that person to do so. Many companies
even print bank account and routing information on their invoices to
facilitate direct transfers.
