Default RegiStax 2 problem

Got a new computer with Win XP like the old one. Have installed both
registax and registax 2, but when I try to load .avi into it, a message pops
up saying: "Failed to start AVI decompression" and then another one saying:
"access violation at address 004033FA in module 'RegiStax2D.exe'. Read of
address 00000000."

What does this mean and how can I get RegiStax to work properly?

Peter M

HI Peter:

If you don't get an answer here, you might want to post this to the QCUIAG
group on Yahoo. These are normal .avis in a format you've been able to open in
the past, huh?

Yes. They are from my digital camera. I have used it with the old pc, and
have never had any problems.

Thanks for the advice; I'll try the Yahoo group if I don't get any help to
solve the problem here.

Files with AVI extensions can actually be encoded in different manners: the
correct software codec may be needed for proper decoding. Search google for
avi codec for diagnostic and identification tools.

Are you normally able to view those specific AVIs on the new computer? Did
you install some camera specific software on the old computer?

Hi again

Found the problem. As you suggested, the problem was related to some of the
camera software.

Thanks to all for helping me

Uninstall it, run scandisk/defrag, re-install it.
