The aurora
https://www.usap.gov/videoclipsandmaps/spwebcam.cfm
It is the first sign of polar night in a location which must be the most interesting in terms of observational astronomy. http://www.moongiant.com/phase/today/ With the moon largely on the sunlit face of the Earth and darkness firmly established, the South pole latitude opens up a constant vista of the celestial arena , at least weather permitting. Isn't it time to drop the 'tilting' Earth and adopt the principles of a single surface rotation of the entire planet due solely to its orbital motion, this rotation runs parallel to the orbital plane and is quite slow and uneven. |
