science streaming internet radio service. Tune in at http://astronomy.fm/ Select your favorite audio player from the top of the page to hear the broadcast. Programs are repeated in 3-hour blocks to better serve time zones around the globe. (In the past month AFM*Radio has had listeners in 36 countries.) A new broadcast day begins at 0200 GMT each day (which is 9pm US Eastern time). Today we are broadcasting the following shows (times are approximate): ~ "The Event^Horizon!" ~ Hosted by Marty Kunz & Michael Narlock (at 0200, 0500, 0800, 1100, 1400, 1700, 2000, 2300 GMT) Special guests tonight - Jeff Setzer and Nick Evetts ~ "Astronomy Cast" ~ with Fraser Cain and Dr. Pamela Gay (0300, 0600, 0900, 1200, 1500, 1800, 2100, 0000 GMT) Two episodes tonight: #167 - Future Civilizations: Let's assume that humans survive the next few hundred years without destroying ourselves, or the planet, and we actually become a space faring civilization. What kinds of challenges will we face, and what projects will we build to expand ourselves out into the Solar System and eventually the galaxy. You just need to think big. #162 - Edwin Hubble: You might know the name "Hubble" because of the Hubble Space Telescope. But this phenomenal observatory was named after one of the most influential astronomers in modern history. Hubble discovered that galaxies are speeding away from us in all directions, leading to our current understanding of an expanding Universe. Let's learn about the man behind the telescope. ~ "365 Days of Astronomy" hosted today by Rob Knop ~ (0400, 0700, 1000, 1300, 1500, 1800, 2100, 0100 GMT) The daily program of the International Year of Astronomy Today: Black holes and the formation of galaxies ~ "Are We Alone?" with Molly Bently & Seth Shostak ~ (0415, 0715, 1015, 1315, 1515, 1815, 2115, 0115 GMT) That's Cosmic! What makes up the universe? Lots of tiny particles with strange names: bosons, leptons, quarks and neutrinos. But physicists think there are more members to be discovered in this particle zoo. From strange particles to dark matter to vibrating strings. Thanks for listening to a Universe of Possibilities, on Astronomy.FM! ~ Michael Radio at Astronomy daht FM |
