Words fail me. :-D
You would have thought the artist would have been fired for portraying
Martin's space rescue system like this:

"Oh, dear God, we're going to burn up, aren't we? You are out of your
****ing mind for actually trying this....we could have waited till a
rescue Dyna-Soar showed up, couldn't we?
But no, you want a medal, don't you?
Christ, I just crapped my pants, you insane *******!"

I bet the co-pilot with the bicycle clips around his ankles was
wishing for a MOOSE instead ;-p

The thing looks more than a little like the heatshield and seats of a
Gemini minus the whole front of the capsule.
It would be interesting to know what this was intended to be mounted
in...the Dyna-Soar?
Coolest escape capsule design ever was in the Soviet Spiral spaceplane;
in that case the pilot rode inside something like his own Mercury
capsule which formed the cockpit of the spacecraft:

That's hilarious! Of course, the pilot is calm and actually looks like he's
rolling his eyes due to the antics of his catatonic passenger. :-)

The pilot has obviously used that little ampule from the goodies in the
emergency medical kit on himself before starting the reentry.
Reminds me of being on sodium pentathol when they were ripping my wisdom
teeth out.
"Did you feel that?"
"Y...e...s..."
"Did it hurt?"
"N...o..."
"Can we pull the next one now?"
"Y...e...s..."
"That's good, you are a very good patient."
"They are landing at Normandy on the sixth of June."
"What was that?"
"Oh, nothing... nothing at all...you filthy Nazi dentist." :-D

But is it safe?

IS IT SAFE?
