The deficit is minimal compared to the total federal budget. The deficit looks to be about 20% of the budget. $450B deficit vs $2200B fed budget. Borrowing one dollar in five is close to as bad as it gets, since Reagan's administration borrowed one dollar in four in the high-deficit years.
