I've just spent the evening dusted off my 10 year old Tal 2M and am fancying having a bit of a bash at some planetary photography - I've only previously ever done this with my old film SLR at prime focus, and that was about 7 years ago. I hear the general opinion around here is that the Toucam Pro 2 is the best webcam for the job. So now it's really just a case of hunting down some adapters. So I'm going to need an adapter for eye-piece projection and one that fits onto the Toucam. Has anyone got any experiences on which ones they have found to be the best with the Tal 2M and where to get them from. Thanks in advance. I've just bought a low-profile Toucam adaptor (AC624) and an IR blocking filter (AC582) from Telescope House they cost £13.99 and £24.99 respectively (postage free). They also sell the standard length adapter. I wouldn't advise buying the Toucam Pro II from them though, not at £94.99 (inc adaptor). I got mine from Amazon for £36, saving myself £45 I'm hoping that the low-profile adapter will allow me to take pics through my Coronado PST. The bit that comes out of the PST's main body is in two parts. The top part is the blocking filter which needs to be in at all times. The bottom part (i.e. the extension tube between the blocking filter and the main body) is an empty tube. It is possible to remove this (it unscrews from the body, leaving a female thread on the top of the body cell. If you then unscrew the blocking filter from the extension tube, the blocking filter's male thread will screw directly into the body allowing DSLRs, webcams and whatever, to come to focus. A special tool can be used to remove the quite tight extension piece, although I managed it with a tea-towel and a pair of mole-grips. Be careful not to distort the circular profile of the extension piece when you grip it. Pete - thank you, thank you, thank you. At last! Brian |
