Went out about 2am this morning to find comet Machholz in=20
Caelum. Even with the bright moonlight the comet was easy=20 to spot with 10x42 binoculars. Through the TV76 at 53x a=20 small right triangle of stars was visible just above the=20 comet. The only reason i'm making this post is that it will=20 probably be the only time i'll ever get to report seeing=20 something in Caelum! ;-) -Florian |

I did a little checking on Caelum. It translates to the=20
Sculptor's Chisel. It was named by Abb=E9 Nicolas Louis=20 de Lacaille who named some other obscure southern=20 constellations. See here... http://www.astro.wisc.edu/~dolan/con.../Lacaille.html -Florian |

I did a little checking on Caelum. It translates to the
Sculptor's Chisel. It was named by Nicolas Louis de Lacaille who named some other obscure southern constellations. Couple targets in Caelum worth a look: R Caeli is a long-period variable (391 days, 6.7-13.7mag.) GammaCaeli is a nice double-star (4.6, 8.0 @ 2.9") |
