Any thoughts on what I might consider? (re a tripod for a Bausch & Lomb Criterion 4000)

Manfrotto 4075 with a 501 head would be suitable.

Best,
Stephen

Thanks for that Stephen. One retailer I contacted said there's no
Manfrotto 4075 but there is a 475. Is that the one?

Also, having looked at pictures of the 501 head on eBay, I don't see
how I can connect the motor power supply, the socket for which is
mounted right in the base plate...

Cheers, Tom

Yes. Sorry, I used to have an 075, now have the 475, and somehow
contrived to conflate the two.

Ah. I had assumed you were mounting the OTA only, and wanted a suitable
pan-head for that purpose. A pan-head makes little sense if you are
mounting the Criterion fork as well -- far too much added complication
when all you are really after is an altitude adjustment. You would also
have a horribly cantilevered, un-counterweighted setup. The 475 is also
unnecessary if you are motor driving. What might do you better is a
lightweight surveyor tripod (2nd hand or York Survey) and a wedge.

Best,
Stephen
