Default Megrez 80 objective transplant

Hi all,

I've got a Megrez 80 and it is a thing of beauty, built like a tank, but the
objective is typical of short tube 80's. Does anyone know of a replacement
objective with improved specs or even an apo replacement? I know that TMB
has one but it is a bit pricey. Any others out there?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi,

You 'd have to buy a Megrez II 80, which OTA is basically the same as the
one of the APO...

Your adaptation is a solution rarely recommanded as usually amateurs sold
their old and unsatisfying achromatic scope to buy an new one, often an
apochromat.

I suggest you to sale your Megrez 80 that display many imperfections in
regards on the new Megrez II 80.
You will first please to many many casual observers and win some money to
buy either a Megrez II or, better an Orion ST80ED or even an high-end small
refractor from TV, Tak, etc.

You could what Stellarvue has reportedly done at times, and put a baffle right
behind the lens that stops the lens down to say, 60mm. You would definitely
notice a colorimprovement and hey, aperture is overrated.
