Too bad our methods are so far between, extra spendy and otherwise damn lethal (not to mention having been extra polluting as all get out). I guess we've also got too much of our perpetrated cold-war cloak and dagger crapolla that's still to deal with. - Brad Guth |

If I had that much money I could upgrade my Internet link. It's $25 million above and beyond the low level of funding paid for by the Russian government. The Russian space program has been suffering badly from lack of money ever since the demise of the Soviet Union. It's pretty much a given that the Russian space program will sell you anything, if the price is right. And it's good news for the rest of us that he wants to spend it on this, as it helps prove the tourism market which is currently driving a lot of progress. (He even stated a hope that his trip would someday make it easier for others to go too.) Here's hoping that when he gets back, he'll be willing to spend a fifth of that amount on this: http://www.strout.net/info/science/polywell/ As Jim Benson put it: "we would be to the Moon in hours; we would be to Mars in days; we would be to all the other planets in the solar system in weeks." Even if it's a long shot, somebody like Simonyi (or Paul Allen) will hopefully consider it worth $5M to give it a chance. Cheers, - Joe |

Suppose he decided that another 9/11 was a good idea? Do you think the funding of 9/11 was a way for someone to spend their money because it was their money? I realize I am comparing a commercial space venture with a terrorist attack, but you seem to think that having loads of money implies no sense of moral responsibility, or it least it could be interpretted that way.
