Hi all,

I've just got back from the AAO in Australia and from a trip to Mauna Kea
and was lucky enough to be given a private tours of some of the
observatories including Gemini North.

I took some pictures and wondered what you guys use to join them together as
the scopes were far too big to get in one shot and I don't have a fish eye
lens so I took several over a wide area with a view to joining them together
at a later stage

Is Photoshop the way to do it? layers or something?

Thanks in advance

Andy

If you are using a digital camera take a look at your software disc.It
may hold an appropriate stitching program, possibly described as
"panoramic".
My pack included this and other goodies which are not mentioned in the
manual.

Thanks John,

It was an oldish (4 years old) camera and I think the CD is in the loft
somewhere.

The other program SJP said sorted it though.

Roll on a digital SLR! I could have taken so many wonderful pictures. As it
is I have about 4000 from this trip alone!

cheers for your help

Sounds good.
Have a look out for recent PC magazine disks that might have Serif's
Panorama Plua 1 on as a freebie. This is one of the software packages that
has licenced the original autostitch software - not as much control as with
the download, but a nicer interface.

look back over the last 5 months or so/.

It's on the next Sky at Night (April I think) coverdisc too I believe.

I'd recommend it to anyone with a digital camera. The Autostitch software
behind Panorama Plus can stitch together images in 2 dimensions, so you're
not limited to going from left to right as with some panorama programs.

Here's an example just to show what I mean -
http://www.flickr.com/photos/24874058@N00/436724465/ which is composed from
11 images

The benefit of using the Serif version rather than the free download of
autostitch is that the latter generally comes as a time-limited package, so
you can't just install it on a machine and forget about it. If you're
working away from an internet connection the free Serif version would be
preferable.
