The cynical part of me thinks the point is to break things so badly and
push into full ethnic cleansing, then bail out. The Syrians would likely
be destabalized and would try helping the Sunni's (as would the
Saudi's). Iran backs the Shia. They all get sucked into fighting and
killing each other. And everyone gets to kill the Kurds.
