NASA needs to impress the hell out of congress by moving quickly on the
CEV - have it ready for human flights by 2010, whilst doing it under budget. The rest of the budget should then be used to fund a near term mission, such as a lunar orbit mission. NASA needs to also prepare the CEV for use as a taxi that will take crews to the Mars ship waiting in high Earth orbit (after spending 30 days accelerating to that position). This Mars ship needs to use as much existing technology as possible. If NASA does this right, there could be people on the moon at the end of 2010. (sooner if it stops mucking around). NASA needs to do this quickly and cheaply. And with as much commercial involvement as is practical. Nathan |
