Hey, that's quite a bargain compared to $87 Billion (for starters) to pull
a deposed despot out of a hole in the ground.

We're getting much more than that for the money.

Like what? And don't even think about saying anything along the lines of
"a safer world".

Well, it's OT, but we are. (Follow-ups to s.s.p, please)

We are now able to remove all of our troops from Saudi-controlled
Arabia, removing an irritant to the Muslims, and freeing them up for
other duty. We'll be bringing on a new source of oil that can be used
to leverage the Saudis to stop funding terrorism. We have a base on
the borders of two of the major terrorist states, Iran and Syria, from
which we can go in and clean out the nests there if need be. We have
a basis to build a successful Arab nation that can serve as a means of
draining the current Arabian swamp. We've destroyed the myth of the
Arab strong man, which may give us an opportunity to replace it with
something that works and doesn't support terror. We've removed a
major threat to Israel, and induced a split in the Arab world on that
subject, making it easier to reach an accommodation with it to settle
the Middle East conflict. We've set an example of what happens when
dictators ignore U.N. resolutions (Baby Assad now appears to want to
do a deal). We've gathered a treasure trove of intelligence (much of
which, I suspect, will prove very damaging to President Chirac, and is
probably already being used to get him to heel by Jim Baker). We're
killing lots of terrorists, many of whom are Al Qaeda, and we're doing
it there instead of here. And last, but not least, we've ended the
rape rooms and torture chambers.

The list goes on.

we've ended an ill-conceived decade-long embargo that accomplished
just about nothing except punishing the wrong people and making more
enemies than necessary, and we've ended it without the kinds of
problems that would have come from just walking away from it.
