My grandmother has a Ford Galaxy. It's the closest one south of me.

Hi Florian:

My first car was a '62 Ford Galaxy 500. Loved it...never thought it was
beneath me! ;-)

Hint: The closest galaxy is now a part of the Milky Way
and Google is your friend.

Google brings up Sagittarius Dwarf along with the LMC.
I heard the closest galaxy visible to the naked eye
was Andromeda.

To get meaningful answers you'll have to specify what reference you're
using to define those directions. But have a look at

http://www.anzwers.org/free/universe/sattelit.html.

Our galaxy appears to be surrounded by 60 or so small galaxies at
varying distances (Science News 7/1/2006), many of which are being
shredded and consumed by the Milky Way.
Where are you measuring from, our solar system, the galactic core the
nearest edge of the Milky Way (and how do you define that)?

Funny,funny,funny.

Using the constellations in determining galactic locations generates a
hilarious spectacle and I assure you that whatever meaningful
explanation you seem to be providing,it is entirely comical,at least to
a real astronomer.

With one single graphic it is possible to see how the dumb theorists
are coming up with every-valid-point-is-the-center junk along with the
incredibly silly attempt to model celestial structure and motion using
the Ra/Dec constellation system.

Wrong Mike,
the closest visible Galaxy's visible to the naked eye is
still the Large and the Small Magellanic Clouds.

Cheers, Rolf

Ok, Let us try again, I know there is something special about Andromeda.
How about the most distant celestial object you can see with the unaided
eye.
