![]() Rosamond Report 7/3/06 I almost didn't go set up, after all most weekday nights are slow ones, but I looked at the tv listing and yuk. So I grabed my shirt and hat and headed to the corner, so I was set up by just after 8pm. Didn't have a lot stop, only about 6 people, but it was nice anyway. First two where two guys, one said his lady had gotten him a Meade scope for xmass, and he wanted to compair it's views with mine. After looking at Jupiter and then the moon he said his was trash. I asked what kind, it's a 900mm refactor, normal DST. I gave him my card with the FAQ address on it so he could read it. Two young gals had a fast look at the two objects and the Star Vega too, just after they left a CHP car pulled in from the sidestreet and close enough to talk, he couldn't get out, but asked if I had seen the comet the night before, I told him it wasn't a comet but a hunk of rock instead and no, I'd not been able to spot it. I gave him my FAQ card too, who knows, he might stop by off duty someday. The last two people to come over was a man/lady and she had a question, could I help her find a star, and she had the papers to show where it is. Yep, I'd been waiting for this, someone to show up with a star named for them! The FF lights went out so I went over and read the data via my cars headlights, don't know what star map they used, but they give the star their own catalog name/number, had a map showing where it is,this one was in LEO and a very super bright mag 14.15, I then let her know that I'd have to be way out away from town in a totaly dark area to be able to find that faint of a star. They said they'd come back another time too, they had spent over 45 mins talking to me and me showing them the sky and telling what I could about stars and the naming of stars. -- The Lone Sidewalk Astronomer of Rosamond Telescope Buyers FAQ http://home.inreach.com/starlord Sidewalk Astronomy www.sidewalkastronomy.info Astronomy Net Online Gift Shop http://www.cafepress.com/astronomy_net In Garden Online Gift Shop http://www.cafepress.com/ingarden Blast Off Online Gift Shop http://www.cafepress.com/starlords Astro Blog http://starlord.bloggerteam.com/ |
