If Apollo 1 had been successful, what was the goal of the mission? You
always hear of the fire, but I've never heard what the plan was.

Was threre Apollo 2 & 3? My videos only tell of 4,5 & 6 being
unmanned tests of the Saturn V.

Apollo 1's mission was to just test the Apollo spacecraft in Earth
orbit, Apollo 7 took over Apollo 1's mission.

Essentially the same as the later Apollo 7.

NASA was thinking of Grissom's mission (AS-204) as Apollo 4 (with
unmanned AS-201 to 203 presumably being Apollo 1-3), but Grissom
wanted it called Apollo 1 and wouldn't take 'no' for an answer. After
the Fire, NASA acquiesced and just skipped 2 and 3 (since there were
three, not two unmanned Saturn-Apollo flights already and no way to
retroactively designate them and make any sense) and went straight on
to 4.

Apollo 5 was the unmanned flight of Lunar Module 1 on a Saturn 1B (the
same booster Grissom's crew was to ride.)

There were many apollo missions, most of which had no crew, but no
Apollo 2 or 3.

Umm, most of which had no crew? I think you're missing something in your
first sentence or something.

Checking out the Apollo CSM combiation in Earth orbit the way that
Apollo 7 did.

Greg,

Have a look at the NASA web page he mentioned because I thought it was
a strange statement as well. It could be considered accurate IF you
count all the early Saturn I and IB test flights that were carrying
Apollo boilerplates (rather than water or sand). The page listed:

Apollo/Saturn Uncrewed Earth Orbiting Missions
1. SA-5
Launched 29 January 1964
First Block II Saturn launch
SA-6
Launched 28 May 1964
First Apollo boilerplate model
SA-7
Launched 18 September 1964
Apollo boilerplate model
SA-9/Pegasus 1
Launched 16 February 1965
Apollo boilerplate model and micrometeoroid satellite
SA-8/Pegasus 2
Launched 25 May 1965
Apollo boilerplate model and micrometeoroid satellite
SA-10/Pegasus 3
Launched 30 July 1965
Apollo boilerplate model and micrometeoroid satellite
AS-203
Launched 5 July 1966
First S-IVB stage orbital mission
Apollo 4
Launched 9 November 1967
First all-up launch of Saturn V
Apollo 5
Launched 22 January 1968
First test of Lunar Module in space
Apollo 6
Launched 4 April 1968
Final uncrewed Apollo test flight
Apollo/Saturn Uncrewed Suborbital Flights
SA-1
Launched 27 October 1961
First flight of Saturn 1
SA-2
Launched 25 April 1962
Project High Water I
SA-3
Launched 16 November 1962
Project High Water II
SA-4
Launched 28 March 1963
Engine-out capability test
AS-201
Launched 26 February 1966
First flight of Saturn 1B
AS-202
Launched 25 August 1966
Apollo development flight

I guess it depends on whether or not you count the boilerplate
missions.

Blue skies and God speed the crew of the Saturday's STS mission . . .

I count 12 missions with a crew, including Apollo and 16 without.
