Anyone here a user of the joyousness that is OS X
![]() I'm looking for a cool astronomy program, something like SkyMap Pro for Windows. I did use to have the student edition of The Sky but that was a Classic app and tended to run pretty slow. I like Xephem but to run it I need X11 and it doesn't look the prettiest, even though feature wise its pretty awesome. Just wondering if anyone had any good recommendations. I'm in love with Octave/GnuPlot for programming, just looking for something nice and visual. -- The true enemy of science is psuedoscience... |

Depending on what you want it for, try these: - XEphem (the only free real planetarium program I've found) Celestia Stellarium EquinoX (Shareware) There's probably others that I've forgotten to mention. Pete H Thanks guys I'm familar with SN as when I had a PC I used it a lot - and I think this summer when I get some summer work done (Mature student doing astrophysics here!) I'll be buying SN. I don't mind Stellarium - I just want something that looks in place on the OS X desktop ;-) Thanks again! -- The true enemy of science is psuedoscience... |

![]() I'm looking for a cool astronomy program, something like SkyMap Pro for Windows. snip You could have a look at Cartes du Ciel, it works on Ubuntu Linux as does Sky Map Pro with a bit of a fiddle. Norman |

I also use EquinoX, but you can hardly call that pretty, though it is very useful. Tim -- - |

I'm looking at Equinox 6.00 now and I think I'll have a nosey at Cartes du Ciel.... -- The true enemy of science is psuedoscience... |
