Thanks!

Better vibration dampening, which translates to a higher load capacity.
The Vixen/Celestron wood leg tripod for the GP-C's of the mid-late 90's
is super light, and far more stable than the aluminum CG-5 jobbies of
the same period and later. My GP-C can handle a C9.25 for visual, no
problem. Not so with the aluminum legs (and I've tried).

Dang.. it's almost sexual! Is this about wood in general or certain types
of wood..ie. pine vs.
maple ?

Dave,

K B Systems makes terrific wood tripods:

http://www.kbsystem.com/

I believe they are the supplier of TeleVue/Vixen ash tripods.

Alain,
See this link for Al's Custom Tripods. There were really nice and Al
was a great guy to deal with. Not sure, but I think he retired. I
emailed him a while back, but got no response. If you read this
Al...Thanks for doing a good job!
Dave

Hi Dave,

I'm a newcomer here. Who is "Al" and did he have a website so one could
view the wooden tripods?

Secondly, would you have a website or a book in mind to refer me to,
regarding the fabrication of different styles of Dobsonian mounts?

Many thanks for taking the time to respond!

Alain
