There was a person on alt.binaries.pictures.astro who advertised certain
software that created pseudo 3D nebula pictures by convolving(?) the original in a certain way (and was subsequently flamed as a spammer). Does anyone have a link to his work and software? Thanks much in advance, -- Ioannis |

Does anyone have a link to his work and software? Search for the term "anaglyph" in search engines. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaglyph_image Searching on "anaglyph" and "nebula" gives John Waitte in New Zealand: http://www.angelfire.com/film/nzphoto/ http://nzphoto.tripod.com/stereo/ and he has (some odd) pages on pseudo-stereography and on nebula anaglyphs and solar stereograms from the SOHO project: http://nzphoto.tripod.com/astro/3dastro/index.html http://nzphoto.tripod.com/astro/3dastro/sun/sunana.htm Or maybe this is the person - http://www.tabberer.com/sandyknoll/m...-software.html There is a high-traffic yahoo graph on anaglyghs. They may know. - Canopus56 |

One of the alias that was used was Tom Piper: Subject: ASTRO: Stereograph for Small Megallanic Cloud From: Tom Piper Newsgroups: alt.binaries.pictures.astro Date Posted: Tue, 12 Jul 2005 15:10:22 GMT The following picture is the stereograph for small Megallanic cloud. Probably someone may think the blurry caused by the difference of focal length is meaningless in the case of astronomical photo because every star or nebula is very far from earth and the focal length for the telescope is actually set up at infinity. However in the case of nebula, the light coming through the cloud of it is thought to be relatively more blurred than the light without traversing in the cloud since the former has been scattered by the tiny particles in the cloud. Thus my method may still work (at least) in the case of nebula. For other stereoscopic nebulae, visit; http://139.134.5.123/tiddler2/stereo...ula/nebula.htm digging that address, I get an Autralian ISP: 03/16/06 07:46:54 dig 139.134.5.123 @ 158.152.1.58 Dig ... Non-authoritative answer Recursive queries supported by this server Query for 123.5.134.139.in-addr.arpa type=255 class=1 123.5.134.139.in-addr.arpa PTR (Pointer) users.bigpond.com As I remember, the guy's website was set up to require you to register with a valid email address, raising the suspicion of spammery. Plus, what he was trying to tout was apparently only a pretty basic Photoshop modification that created pseudo-3d. Never tried it myself - didn't look at all impressive. -- Aidan Karley, FGS Aberdeen, Scotland, Location: +57d10' , -02d09' (sub-tropical Aberdeen), 0.021233 Written at Thu, 16 Mar 2006 07:45 GMT |
