Astronaut's father dies
Our sympathies go to Eileen Collins, commander of last summer's mission
of shuttle Discovery. Her father was struck and killed by a car in
Elmira, N.Y., on Monday, the Associated Press reports. James Collins,
79, who lived in Rochester, was in town to hear his daughter talk at a
high school. The accident is still under investigation. Eileen Collins'
mother, Rose Marie, died last November

I'm having trouble coming up with something neither trite nor glib, but
CDR Collins has my best wishes on this sad occasion.

I wonder whether this should be kept a private event for family and
close friends, or whether this deserves a public announcement where
people start discussing this event.

The Elmira Star-Gazette, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle,
13WHAM-TV, WENY-TV, WHEC-TV, the Chicago Sun-Times,United Press
International, and Florida Today have made public announcements.

James Collins was very proud of his daughter, it seems, and she of him.
I would like to extend my condolences.

Also from Holland, I'd like to extend my conolences to CDR Collins and
her entire family. I know what it is like to loose a parent, they never
can be missed...
