Hello:
Anyone any first hand experience concerning the ETX 90 UHTC vs. Celestron its C90 Maksutov spotting scope? It seems the Celestron spotting scope is a lot cheaper than the ETX 90 UHTC OTA. I own a very old Meade ETX 90 (without UHTC) with absolutely suberb optics. However, the first ETX series had the problem that the baffle at the secondary mirror started to take some action and become loose when time goes on. I tried to fix the baffle by two-component glue. However, I scratched my secondary mirror markedly. Meade claims UHTC coatings will improve the overall mirror throughput from 73% to 88% (you can infer it from their UHTC group homepage). That is a lot and would mean the ETX turns from 7.5cm into a 8cm performer. How about the coatings of Celestron in this respect? Another question: does anyone know whether it is possible to install a Celestron C90 scope into an old ETX 90 fork mount? Thanks a lot, Schneewittchen |
