Pat I saw that on NASAwatch. While I don't have a problem with a chap not having a college degree, I do have a big problem with a 24 year old appointee being the chief PAO at NASA. I think back to when I was 24, there was no way I could handle that kind of responsibility. I think this really shows how important space exploration is to the politicians. I really don't believe that this is something peculiar to the Bush administration. What a freekin' mess! Gene |

We're all in agreement that we need to start making more nuclear power plants, hook them up to thermal depolymerization plants and convert all our garbage to crude oil, for refinement into gasoline so we can all afford to drive SUV's. |

This was worse than the FEMA appointment, in terms of the gap between the job responsibilities and the qualifications, but it was far less consequential, since space isn't important. |

Lying on a resume about a diploma is a bad thing. Hell, he should have been honest about it. That having been said, there has been many a time I have thought about fudging the truth a bit about my college degree. Truth is, I don't have an engineering degree. I studied Mech engineering at Maryland for awhile, got married and entered the wonderful world of work. Had two kids( one is autistic), which gave me no time to go back to school. It is what makes me a materials science technician today and not an engineer. Wish I had finished way back in 1983 though. Gene |

Nah, we skip the middle step: http://davidszondy.com/future/atomic/ford.htm This thing would really discourage tailgating- two of them get too close together and both may go supercritical and melt down. I once read a proposal to keep the highways ice free in winter by mixing heat emitting isotopes into the asphalt. I think that lead plate on the bottom of the car might hinder its performance though. ;-) Pat |

I really don't believe that this is something peculiar to the Bush administration. What a freekin' mess! The Bush administration does this with almost every govt agency. They push aside career specialists with their 'true believer' team players. Yes men. They take over and make messes wherever they go. Just today State Dept employees are complaining that the career diplomats are being sidelined for party hacks. Same thing in the EPA, the Justice Dept and so on. The whole WMD fiasco came about from the same thing. Only party hacks deciding and the career professionals are ignored. There's another term for this kind of phenomena. It's generally called Incompetence. Jonathan s Gene |
