Default Is it Venus?

At approx 7.00 this morning (a break in the clouds) I saw a very bright star
approx 30deg West of South and approx 30 deg Elevation. (Location Oswestry,
Shropshire)
SWMBO thought it might be the planet Venus& sent me here for confirmation.
I haven't noticed it before, is it brighter than normal? is it nearer to
earth at this time of the year?
Regards
Donwill

Seen this too this morning from Glasgow, whilst crossing the River Kelvin -
a beautiful cloudless morning. From what I remember from my younger years, I
think it is indeed Venus.

Brace yourself Donwill - SWMBO was wrong!! ;-)
The object you saw was Jupiter. Venus was in the south east though,
following close behind.
