Conflict in the Cosmos: the turbulent scientific life of Fred Hoyle.

Synopsis
Fred Hoyle made many contributions of enduring significance to
astrophysics, particularly his work on the origin of the chemical elements.
He also
startled his colleagues with cosmological ideas they found implausible. As
his
career developed he found himself increasingly in conflict with professional
scientists and university administrators. Despite his extraordinary
departure from cambridge in 1972, he achieved more than any other astronomer
in
re-establishing theoretical astronomy in the UK.
