Default Society Equipment Insurance

Our local society equipment insurance is getting very high priced. I
wondered if there is any scheme organised like the FAS group public
liability insurance.

Does anyone know of such a scheme or of an insurance company that offers
cheap rates?

Regards,

Darren

Hi Darren,

It is a perpetual problem getting insurance for AS equipment which is stored
in remote observing sites/observatories.

We have no current insurance for our main scopes because it was just not
economic.

If you (or anyone else) know of any insurers who may be worth approaching,
please could you let us know.

Very best wishes and clear, dark skies.

Hi Darren,

I made enquiries for Milton Keynes AS to the insurers (Layton
Blackman)providing PLI for the FAS and the premiums were just too
costly. In the end, save half of what the premiums would have cost in
a reserve and use it to buy new equipment in our quickly obsolescent
world.
