The recent thread concerning a wireless imaging system has caught my
attention, because I have a related but much simpler question. What is the simplest way to set up a wired remote control for imaging.Currently I am very much a beginner in the hobby, having only a pair of binoculars,a digital camera(canon a80)and a tripod with binocular mount. For a while now I've been taking wide-field shots of the night sky with the camera on the tripod or handheld shots through the binoculars eyepiece with limited sucess.Along with a lot of crummy shots,I've had enough that turned out well enough to encourage me to try to get to the next level(though within a limited budget)What I would like to try next is remote control of my camera from a pc in my living room, while the camera/binocular rig is in my front yard ~50 feet away.To that end I downloaded a program called "capture perfect"which looks like what I am looking for. However,in order to connect my camera to my pc(usb port)it appears I will need 50-60 feet of cable. When I went to the store to look into getting a cable extension, they only came in 10 foot lengths and came with the warning that only one extension be used, and the distance between device and computer shouldn't exceed 16 feet total. So my questions boil down to these:are these warnings correct?is there another way to accomplish my purpose? or do I have to wait til I can buy a laptop in order to control my camera(along with the telescope that is also on my wish list).Any relevant info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable indeed are limited to a maximum length of
16 feet. However, you can acheive distances of up to 150 feet using a USB extender or booster. You can find one here -- http://www.cablestogo.com/product_li...?cat%5Fid=1521 or here -- http://www.vpi.us/usbc5-g.html Scott "draper1070" wrote in message oups.com...
