Hi all
Lidl have a £50 refractor telescope for sale, but I can't find any reviews of it online. I'm thinking of buying it as a xmas present for a friend who I think would be very interested in astronomy. being clueless myself, I'd appreciate your opinions. is this a good telescope for a beginner or is there another model (under £100) that you'd recommend? thanks for your help alan |

The telescope sells elsewhere for £99 Google for "Bresser Skylux" Apparently the Lidls refractors in previous years have been cracking little scopes for the money. There is quite a cult following for these apparently, particularly in Germany where similar models have been sold by Lidls under the name Optus. There is quite a few pages, mainly in German, detailing DIY enhancements. For less than £100 you won't get much better I reckon. Henry |

Lidl have a £50 refractor telescope for sale It was good enough to get me hooked when I bought my son one last Christmas. This appears to be an updated version but there is a review of the old one on www.cloudynight.com The only weakness is the 4mm eyepiece which was pretty poor but the 26mm is fine and now we just use some cheap plossls I got on ebay. BTW the same scope is 99UKP at www.telescopehouse.com -- Ian Newham http://www.IanNewham.com |

I posted details of the Meade scope selling at Asda a few weeks ago and the
Bresser at Lidl is of significantly better value. The Bresser has a 70mm objective lens rather than Meade's 60mm. The Bresser has an equatorial mount rather than Meade's alt-az. For a complete novice, an equatorial mount is essential if you want to find and track objects and makes astronomy a tad more interesting, in my humble opinion. However, I am intrigued by the camera connection. Anyone know what this is exactly? Rich |
