Default Tracking help please

After some good pics with my neximager i decided to have a go at deep
sky imaging so i went out and got my self the meade dsi, however im
having real trouble tracking objects. i have a Nexstar 8i with goto
hand controller on a standard tripod and its tracking in ALT-AZ but
objects just seem to drift across the screen?? moon and planets are
fine, ive spoken to David Hinds and they recommend using a wedge so is
that the best way forward?
