Calling all Officers: Canadians want to be Darla's friends.

Well fellow starship officers, it seems all our efforts to bring Darla to
Earth in an official way for a good first contact has not been in vein. It
seems those Canadians have been closely following our internet progress,
albiet silently. The former Canadian prime minister or sumsuch, gave a
speech to their Parliament, stating the canadians ought to begin a 10 year
effort to open relations with 'ethical extraterrestrial' races that have
been on earth. This is interesting - have any of you been contacted by the
canadians? It seems they want no part of the USA's attempt to militarize
space, or to set up directed energy weapons on the moon in order to shoot
down alien spacecraft. They want Darla, Pros, Sil, Dr. Y, Lom, and all our
spacy pals to spend their foreign currency in canadian stores when they get
some shore leave.

Hey Darla - it seems you have been given the official green light to proceed
with First Contact - once everyone down here sees you having fun and
spending Gold on canadian business, everyone else on earth will want to get
in on the alien action and no governamnt, no matter how opressive or

Well, I suppose Martin *might* have said it -- I didn't listen to his
speech, though I strongly prefer either another Liberal government or the
NDP to succeed the current minority government, rather than the homophobic
Tory Xian k00ks -- and it never occurred to me to check, until
now...checks...bemused Yup, he did. However, I still doubt that the
regs of alt.astronomy have made contact with any ETs. Not saying it's
impossible, or even totally unlikely -- it seems to me like a reasonable
way to test the waters before taking the risk, which can't, after all, be
reversed -- just that I sincerely doubt any self-respecting ETs would want
contact with the saucerheads.
