Default Aerospace Projects Review, "US Bomber Projects" news

I've recently returned from an expedition to the Boeing Historical
Archives (my third such trip) where I managed to fianlly finish off the
bulk of my research on Boeing bomber projects. B-47's with B-52
fuselages; supersonic B-47's; the designs leading up to the B-47, -52,
-59, B-1; hydrogen fueled B-52s, asymmetrical supersonic bombers that
would have made WWII German designers blush, you name it. For proper
newsgroup relevancy, also a number of spacegoing bombers. See:
http://www.up-ship.com/Book/bomproj.htm

I will have more news on this and a few other interesting projects
within the next few days, with the requisite "special offers." As I
mentioned a few weeks back, I lost my list of emails of those interested
in updates; so, if you're interested, drop me an email or post a reply
saying so.

Looks fascinating.

Under the "Missile Carriers" illustration is something that looks like a
Shuttle. Was there a proposal to arm Shuttles with conventional or nuclear
warheads?

*Sorta.* That one, and two of the others, are described in an article
("Dash On Warning Concepts") in the last print issue of APR. See he

http://www.up-ship.com/apr/current.htm

As for arming regular Shuttles... the closest I've seen was an early
'80s Rockwell concept for the MRCC spaceplane that was to be
Shuttle-bay-capable. It was a two-man all-purpose vehicle capable of
bombing the bejeebers out of the Soviets. The MRCC will be covered in
some depth in the Bomber Projects book.

Thing is, the Shuttle is a fragile vehicle that can't exactly slip into
orbit unseen. So while there were assuredly proposals for armed Shuttle
*payloads,* making the Shuttle itself a combat vehicle is something I've
only seen half-assed seriously proposed in the one instance (DOW).

....Scott, I'm looking at the big assembly of thumbnails, and under the
"Space" section, there's the image at the top that has me wondering
this: Considering it's extreme resemblance to Luke's Landspeeder, was
this part of the "Star Wars" Space Defense Initiative? :-P (*)

(You really need to make 3-views of these available, because once I
finish getting 3D Studio under my belt, some of these will be getting
basic meshes done for them. They're too wild to not be granted such
merit :-))

(*) I know what it is, but still...:-)

That's the "Quicksat" vehicle that was discussed hereabouts a week or
two back. Some of us have been aware of it for a bit longer'n that...

That's rather the point of the book. Those on the email newslist will
hear more about this. Ahem, ahem...
