Default EQ6 - Dec Axis Disassembly

Has anyone got any hints/tips/links for disassembling the Dec Axis on an EQ6
? I got the links for the RA axis but for the life of me can't find anything
else.

Are you a member of the EQ6 Yahoo group? This is a good source of
information (see message #5088). I've found pictures showing how to
dismantle the RA axis but no good written description - what have you got?
I keep putting off doing mine (it feels as if there are dents in the RA
bearings) in the hope that someone will publish an all-in-one guide.

Yep, I'm a member of the EQ6 Group - but it seems like resources for
overhauling the Dec axis are like hens teeth, obviously most people are
mainly concerned with resolving errors in the RA axis. I have dismantled the
RA axis using this as a guide
http://www.astrosurf.org/avex/eclate...bling-eq6.html - It isn't
quite *that* simple, and some brute force is needed along the way but I have
got it all dismantled and got rid of the original grease (or marmite ?!). I
have found some rather worrying damage to the gears that I'm going to have
to try and tidy up but otherwise the bearings etc all seem serviceable. From
what I can now see of the Dec Axis it looks like one of the main bearings is
shot (they shouldn't rattle I assume) and that may well be the cause of the
hideous noises that emanated from the mount 3 or 4 days ago. I guess I'm
going to have to work it out myself - I'll post a link to the pics if I'm
successful.

Well, I've given it a shot. I took the whole thing to bits at the weekend
and photographed the reassembly. I've put it all here
http://www.jamesrobertcook.co.uk/EQ6_dismantle.htm.

Let me know what you think.

Wow, that's really useful. You've made it look easy. Now I've no excuse.
Thanks a lot for doing that.

Cunning huh, but some of the parts really didnt want to budge. Just remember
lots of gentle taps are better than a single belt with the club hammer.
