Default BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Ice explorer cleared for lift-off

Europe's dedicated ice explorer, the Cryosat spacecraft, blasts off into a
polar orbit on Saturday.

The satellite carries a sophisticated radar altimeter that will measure the
height and angle of ice surfaces with unprecedented precision.
