It's a little amusing to see that the US and Russia are actually switching
chairs: the Kliper is a small Shuttle and the CEV will become a capsule, just as Soyuz is today. I'm wondering if the Russians may be having second thoughts about the Kliper now that the US is switching back to capsules and the political waves the continuing problems with the Shuttle are creating. Kliper may be more rugged than the Shuttle but I'm not sure if it could be used for lunar exploration. Also the Kliper has small aerodynamic wings just as the Shuttle which could be damaged and destroy the vehicle. I don't know what kind of TPS it uses but from the looks of it (mockup) it will be similar to today's Shuttle. |
