Default Stars seen as discs?

Probably a stupid question, but have any stars ever been seen as a
discernable disc shape as opposed to the points of light we normally see?
Don't say our sun, either!

Thanks
Garry

And don't forget COAST http://www.mrao.cam.ac.uk/telescopes/coast/
which is ours! Not direct imaging, though.

Chris, when posting one of these shortened URLs please also post some
indication of where it goes to - while they're terrific for posting as
they're nice and short, they may go somewhere we don't want to follow,
and they also tend to expire or get reused to point to somewhere quite
different.

Thanks for the replies and the links. Nice to know I'm only ten years
behind the news! Wonder if that comet has hit Jupiter yet?
