Default Colorful and blinking Capella?

Observing a bit last night and I was surprised to see Capella blinkning and
changing colors rapidly. Clearly these are some atmospheric effects, but
I've never seen this effect so distinctly. Are there some known conditions
in the atmosphere this week, like volcanic ash?
