Hello,
It has been a while since I have posted here & due to time constraints I have condenced this message some what, & not elaborated more on certain points. Perhaps I will post a few follow ups. Another untapped financial resource for lunar exploration: Despite the overwheling rejection of my last post with regards to encouraging individuals to e-mail corporations encouraging them to try to finance space & lunar exploration projects, I thought I would post information about another great potential financial resource. An additional untapped financial resource is the $400 billion we spend each year on the public school system (pss) in the U.S. This figure does not include additional billions spent on colleges, private schools, trade schools, & the Department of Education ($52 billion). Ten per cent or 40 Billion dollars goes to new construction. Let me explain this to you even though every one knows it but will not admit it to themselves. First of all our PSS is a total failure, & this is despite the large amounts of expenditures. I want to point out that just because a student goes throught the pss & becomes a doctor, an accountant or a successfull business person still does not mean that our pss is a success. If any thing it is the good students who are harmed the most by it. So we believe that if we just keep throwing money at a flawed process that it will fix the problem. One of the reasons it is a flawed system is that teachers spend a majority of their time just trying to maintain order in the classroom. One way to do this is to promote the use of vouchers. Another way is to cut teachers salaries in half. Just about every one knows deep down inside that if we keep having inflation that cut backs will have to be made. No one wants to face this reality even though we know it is true. Inflation will bring about cut backs which will force it on to the internet. What can be done? Write Or email your state politicians demanding that less money be spent on education. Also write them requesting that teachers salaries be cut. Better yet, just request that they scrap the entire pss & transform it over to the internet. Also write the President requesting an end to the Dept. of Education. Doing this alone will free up enough funds to carry out a successfull plan of Lunar exploration & still have alot left over. Joel |

Taking public money from one public purpose - public schools - to spend
it on a dubious public purpose - space development - is a non-starter. Here's how we should proceed; Also, while schools can be improved, they are not the shambles you make them out to be. Millions of people are well educated each year by it, and tens of millions of people are adequately educated each year by it - sufficient to maintain the US as one of the greatest nations on Earth. People come here in part for our excellent colleges and free universal education. Nevertheless, here is a list of things that would benefit schools directly if adopted; IN SCHOOLS - send money back to the parents in the form of vouchers who then have the right to spend it how they wish, where they wish - allow schools to compete for these resources - require schools to follow accounting procedures businesses must follow and publish the results of this record keeping - require schools to keep track of their performance and accurately report this publicly - just as food producers must tell you what you are getting, schools should to. - require schools to operate 12 months out of the year - with 4 hour days - schools are not baby sitters, schools are not providers of health care, food, or other parental services - and children no longer help with harvest - ending antiquated notions will improve capital efficiency of schools and improve the quality of service rendered. - change work rules and other bureaucratic limitations that restrict education automation - release the power of the internet to provide constant learning to all learners - and provide lifelong learning opportunities to all who desire them - it is not the role of schools to make sure text book publishers and others maintain a profit. - reduce or eliminate taxes to those who make money by investing in education innovation Our space program needs significant changes- here is what would release the power of the market to fund development of core space technology SPACE - convert NASA to a service organization meeting the needs of qualified commercial space operators - use NASA libraries and labs to support this service role - making it available to all qalified users and operators - allow the commercial leasing of space bodies and interplanetary and cislunar space - lease payments support NASA operations - provide for reduced or elimiated taxes to investors in new space technologies The market would then take the lead in creating ever greater space faring capacities. At this point, the power of the market will create the needed changes in delivery of education. |
