Quite a spectacle it was too, presumably they used an infra-red camera
to show the shuttle against the dark sky or did it glow enough to be picked up visually. In one of the most crass pieces of journalism ever seen, CNN interviewed the Columbia Mission Controller during final appoach, and showed pictures of the break-up over Texas in the background. There must have been shades of "Worlds at War" for people switching on in the middle of all that! Bill |

Yep I saw that on CNN, it was Miles O'Brien was doing the interview. That
was poignant though, as if Columbia had not disintegrated in 2003, Miles had been slated to be the next Journalist in space. Bill 'twas an IR camera. they'd been using the same kit to show the shuttle landing training vehicle earlier in the broadcast. |
