Is it possible to align the Meade ETX up on a named star insted of letting
it find and name one?

Yes. If you choose 2 star alignment then you can pick the stars to align on.

I think you can hit a key (goto?) to make the ETX pick a different
alignment star if you don't like the current choice (if the chosen
alignment star is hidden behind a tree for instance).

You can do that also, but sometimes its easier if you know which star you
want to pick it from the list
