Default Bill Readdy -- Conspicuous by His Absence

In the past several NASA news conferences, the man who reportedly will
issue the 'go' for launch tomorrow has not been available to take
reporters questions. Instead, they've had Wayne Hale and his ECO show
'n tell, with Griffen saying he hopes the problem reoccurs before
launch.

Who's in charge? Why didn't Readdy (Associate Administrator for Space
Flight) call for a WCDT and a FRF months ago? He's been around long
enough to know what it takes to launch after this sort of a standdown.

It looks like Griffen just wants to make sure Lockheed's tank-mod
snafus get ironed out for the first launch of his unmanned heavy
lifter. No honorable man in his right mind would use a crewed launch
for that purpose.

The Houston Chronicle recently quoted NASA's Deputy Administrator, Fred
Gregory, on the Bush/Griffen shuttle transformation (to "exploration"):

As I read it, Fred currently talks and advocates a 'fast and loose'
approach to putting men and women in space (as long as he's sitting in
Mission Control or NASA Headquarters, and not in the cockpit):

"We've got to do dangerous things," Gregory said. "We've got to take
risks."

Tell me, if a different person collected your garbage one week, would you
assume some conspiracy at the dump?

Since most of us here have no garbage collection, I would assume that a
neighbor felt sorry for me. Many of them have hungry cats, who
frequently get to mine before I have a chance to dispose of it.
