Default PST images?

I would like to find some actual PST (H-a) images - taken with the Coronado
PST. The images listed as PST on a certain well-known page are not
actually PST but from a different telescope.... My Google search has not
provided PST images either. Can anyone provide a link?

TIA

Hi Lawrence - Bit confused as to which site you're referring to. I'd say
this one is a PST, as photo and references attached:
http://home.freeuk.com/m.gavin/pstnew.htm Any comment?

I do, but I couldn't eat a whole one.

Hello there

Thanks for the reference. On this page there is a picture of the PST. The
many prominences and close-ups on this page appear to be from a larger
telescope. Are they all from the (small) PST? If so, I am very impressed.

Click on the 'latest PST' and the close-ups are amazing. Are these really
from that small scope or one of the larger ones (but on the wrong page).

They look to me like they are from the PST. But those views look similar
to what I see with a similar sized (pre-PST) instrument with a 2A
Coronado filter set in it. My own photographic shots in H-alpha have
been limited by using crude video capture to record them. Bright pure
red sun completely freaks out my digicams.

You are often limited by local seeing in the afternoon if it is sunny.

Incidentally how do people do the occulting disk trick?
Is that a built in feature of the PST?

Regards,
Martin Brown

No - they're from my PST - small is beautiful but I haven't mastered the whole solar disk yet ;-)

Taking images through the PST - is the result limited by virtue of the
supplied eyepiece, or can a webcam provide good enough resolution to show
prominences like these? I am wondering whether the purchase of the PST has
then to be followed by the purchase of expensive ancillary equipment before
good results like these can be obtained. I call it the 'gotcha' factor!
Life's experiences suggest that one has to be cautious in expecting a
product to actually do what you think it does! cynical mode off.

Thanks for all info.

Hopefully you'll enjoy the view [and you will!] for a few days before you try to capture images ;-). I've used various eyepieces eg 9mm to 40mm but the supplied 12mm Kelner is fine and all my pics taken through it in afocal mode. I must try again for fuller disk images via my Philips Toucam [~£50] which is used at prime focus. The latter route needs a lot of patience to get good results via free Registax software etc. Hope this helps.

In reality Coronado have largely shot-themselves-in-the-foot over the modestly priced PST against their other hi-end products and thus include many expensive PST accessories/ eyepieces [including the ridiculous MALTA diddy tripod - my equivalent came free with AP photo mag!] to raise extra revenue.

I have some at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/w.leslie/HAlpha.html
I am still experimenting so I process each lot differently. I still
tend to overcook them with Photoshop. They are all taken with an off
the shelf Coronada PST and a Nikon Coolpix 950.

I've managed to play with a mates PST twice, with a Canon 10D & a
toucam.

Take a look at:
http://www.star.le.ac.uk/~dbl/observ...05.html#150305

Probably, with a bit more experience, you could get better images?

Das
