Wow. Finally had the opportunity to visit the new Space Center Houston, and
the Johnson Space Center itself again, after 34 years. They've done a big facelift on the whole visitor program recently. The top of the line "Level 9 Tour," (so-named because the Director's office is on the ninth floor), is well worth the price of U.S. $ 63 a head. We had a full complement of space geeks in our group: several educators, old 60s space kids (my demographic), and three visiting Europeans. Currently they only do three of these a week, and sell just 12 tickets at a time. This gets you the air-conditioned van, versus the open tram car, but most importantly a VIP badge with access to operational and training facilities - oh yeah, and lunch in the Bldg 3 astronaut cafeteria. Our guide was a retired engineer, and she not only knowledgable, she showed us a couple of spots not "officially" included. Here's my account of the trip if you'd care to take a look. It's written in "Holy Crap, I'm standing in Mission Control" style, so please allow for that :-) http://whizzospace.com/museum/museum11.htm JW Whizzospace |
