See the posting at
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/sci.space.news/msg/b67998f41f125b14 or JPL's copy at http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.cfm?release=2005-084. Woot! Woot! "The consensus of the team is that Voyager 1, at approximately 8.7 billion miles from the Sun, has at last entered the heliosheath, the region beyond the termination shock." Way-to-go, kiddos! Yeah, JPL! /dps |

The edits in different versions of the press release are interesting.
The three versions below are obviously based on the same source. http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.cfm?release=2005-084 Last paragraph reads like an afterthought on Voyager's power source, and mentions RTG, DOE, and plutonium. http://www.nasa.gov/vision/universe/...yager_agu.html Headquarters keeps RTG, but drops DOE and plutonium. http://www.spaceflightnow.com/news/n0505/24voyager/ Drops entire last paragraph about power source. The editor probably felt it was not germane to the main subject of the news release. |
