Default Polar Lander

Dang, when are we going to get good surface resolution ?

Can Mars Express help out in this regard?

If so, how about a shot of the old Apollo objects?

In 3 months, the Mars Recon. Orbiter is sheduled for launch with a
Mars arrival in March 2006. It's carrying a (get this!) 20" reflector
telescope for 'ludicrous'-resolution images of the Martian surface
with a resolution of 1 foot per pixel.

Is 30 microns/pixel good enough for you? We're getting that with the Microscopic Imagers on Spirit and Opportunity.

Mars Express' HRSC can reach 10m/pixel at periapsis. The MOC can take 1.4m/pixel images in "normal" mode, and has taken pictures as high as 50cm/pixel by both rolling and yawing the spacecraft to "super resolve" surface details.

HIRISE on MRO is expected to reach 25cm/pixel.

And no matter what resolution you get, the Art Bell crowd will still manage
to Rorschach them and "discover" a Marscape littered with automobile parts
or whatever...
