Default Sunday Night

Sunday Night

With the winds blowing and the clouds overhead,
Sunday night was my first night I could take
the scope up to the corner. Even then, because
of the stupid day light savings time change,
( would you belive some dipstick in the calif.
groverment wants to extend dst by 2 months
AND add another hour to it? ) I couldn't set
up until 7:30pm dst. I only had two people
come over, one guy got a fast look at Jupiter
and the moon, he had to leave fast, but he said
he wants to come more.

The 2nd guy, who stayed around more, will he is
one I can see at home, he's the new owner of
trailer #2 and is the UFO beliver. He got to see
the moon ( with all it's "Holes" ), Jupiter,
Saturn, and two major Stars too. He still tries
his best to turn me into a UFO'er.

He said that when he ran a driver's ed school
about 6 years ago, one of the students was
going out and when he asked "her" where she was
going, she told him about the guy with a telescope
sitting up by foster freeze.

It will be good when FF starts staying open until
10pm every night, it will give me more time up there.

The owner of the Foster Freeze is the guy who last year tried to have me
booted off the Public Sidewalk 2 times!

He'd rather not see me at all.

Oh ya, come this Sept. will mark my 7th year sitting up and giving views to
people who stop by.

Have you ever thought of approaching the FF guy to get a sponsorship
deal. He makes a payment towards your travel costs and you promote his
store to your viewing audience. Look at Jupiter and then over to FF for
refreshment.

Well that's a shame. I'm glad to hear that he hasn't succeeded.

Congratulations. A man after John Dobson's heart.

It was after reading about John Dobson when I lived in Waianae, Hi. that got
me to start doing Sidewalk Astronomy.

I don't remember the one, but it was about him and his upcoming birthday and
I got the OK to set up my scope as a daytime display in a local shopping
center and had info sheets about him and the scope itself. Then as darkness
came close, I moved from the display area to the parking lot and gave views
of the moon then.

That was in 95, used to set up at the beach parks, go to HAS school star
partys, Boy Scout, and even set up a few times in Waikiki Beach. So when I
moved here, it was normal for me to carry on and been doing so since.

When I was a kid, I used to have the city permit from San Diego and would
set up a card table for selling, didn't need the permit if in county areas.
So I knew the "Law of the Land" sidewalk wise. BTW, He did see the Orion
12.5 dob I had over there then and I saw him at rtmc when I was able to give
a T & Q event one year up there (2002 or 01 I think ).

Interesting. I will have an oportunity to meet John Dobson in a couple of
weeks. He is visiting 'down under' and will be calling in on our local
astronomical society. I will report on the event.

Klazmon.
