Expedition 10 Crew Begins New Week with Preparations for Upcoming Spacewalk
After a weekend filled with light duty and routine cleaning chores, the Expedition 10 crew began the new week with preparations for the spacewalk scheduled for March 28. In the morning, Flight Engineer Salizhan Sharipov reviewed the deployment procedures for Nanosat, a Russian satellite experiment that the crew will place into orbit near the end of next week's spacewalk. Meanwhile, Commander Leroy Chiao spent the morning attending to some routine tasks and physical exercise. Afterwards, Chiao spent the remainder of the morning and afternoon preparing the equipment and tools for the upcoming spacewalk. Chiao began charging the first battery pack for the Russian Orlan spacesuit and prepared the replaceable components for the suit. Since spacewalk preparations are expected to fill most of the crew's time for the week, no further troubleshooting on the Elektron oxygen generating system that failed on Thursday is planned until next week. In the meantime, the crew continues to receive sufficient oxygen from other sources on the Station. -- -------------- Jacques :-) www.spacepatches.info |
