To the Group:
I have a friend that has a "1086 Meade 2110 equatorial mount". While adjusting its "temporary storage location" in his garage, it tipped over (scope not mounted). The yoke appears to be a cast metal, and the "pin" portion of it is sheared. Current production by this manufacturer is significantly different. I haven't laid my hands on the part yet. Since my hands are waving furiously, I really should post a picture... URL:http://members.aol.com/dlzc/yoke.jpeg Are replacement parts available? Meade's website doesn't seem particularly helpful as far as mounts go. If I can carve a new one, or weld-repair this one with a dowel in place of the pin... Does anyone else have experience in reworking these types of mounts? What works, what doesn't, what to watch? Thanks for any help. David A. Smith PS: It really *isn't* my mount, and I really didn't break it! But a friend in need... |

The metal is probably cast aluminum so repairs by welding will be a bit
difficult. Making a pin or bolt will be a better solution if you have the tools to do so and a complete remaking of the whole part probably even better. -- Why isn't there an Ozone Hole at the NORTH Pole? |

Is there a secondary market for old busted equipment, as with cameras? |
