Default newbie question: spotting scopes

Sorry if you've had this question before.

As an avid camper in Northern British Columbia every summer I'd like to find
a decent spotting scope that would be suitable for star gazing. I know a
telescope would be better for this but with the light pollution and cloud
cover here in Vancouver it would be useless most of the time. As the
spotting scope is smaller and more compact it would also be easier to pack
into the mountains.

EBay has a varied selection of scopes so if there is anything that meets
this criteria for around $200 then please post your recommendations.

Thanks for any help.
