Default Super Volcano Will Challenge Civilization, Geologists Warn

As with an asteroid impact, one strategy is to disipate the energy of the
event over space and time (thus reducing incident power flux). With an
asteroid you can do this by pulverising it as much as possible. With a
super-volcano, it seems difficult to disipate the energy over space.
However, regarding time, we could drill into the magma chamber and drain off
the magma by gradually venting it into the air over a long period of time
(controlled erruption). This would minimize the catastrophic effect of an
abrupt erruption.

Suggest you study some place like Yellowstone in detail and then come
back. You are oversimplifying. A Yellowstone is not a hot pimple.

Default

Sites such as Yellowstone -are- relieving volcanic pressure caused by
the particular tectonic shift
And no matter how people try to prevent it the earth will do pretty
much as it does.
